October 10th is World Mental Health Day

Close to 800,000 die due to suicide every year.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a day for us to unite in our efforts to improve the mental health of people around the world. This year, we are encouraged to take 40 seconds of action to help improve suicide prevention awareness, reduce the stigma and let people who are struggling know that they aren’t alone. With the right support and awareness, these deaths can be prevented.

You can help someone who is suicidal by:
• Encouraging them to talk
• Listening to them
• Taking them seriously
• Helping them create a safety plan
• Encouraging them to seek help from a doctor or mental health provider

If you or someone that you know is struggling with mental health or showing any of the above behaviours, speak with a health care professional for support for both them and yourself. It is important that you do not carry this alone.
