September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Day

Today is World Alzheimer’s Day. Alzheimer’s is a disease of the brain where brain cells progressively degenerate. This disease often progresses in different stages, bringing about various changes to the lives of both the person and their families.

The stages include:
• Early stage
• Middle stage
• Late stage
• End of life

The symptoms can range from forgetfulness and communication difficulties, to the deterioration of cognitive abilities and inability to communicate. Although there is no cure for this disease nor can the progression be reversed, there are many treatment options available and lifestyle choices that can be made to treat the symptoms and slow the progression.
