Skin cancer can take many forms, looking different across each skin tone. In people of colour, it often develops in areas that get the least amount of sun, such as the palms, soles of the feet, and nail areas, making it more difficult to catch.
While skin cancer is less common in people of colour, it certainly still occurs, even if you never get sunburnt. During your regular skin checks, keep an eye out for these warning signs:
- New dark spots
- Growing, misshapen or bleeding dark spots
- Sores that won’t heal or continually return
- A patch of skin that feels rough or dry
- A dark line underneath or around a nail
If you’ve discovered any of these signs, schedule an appointment to have them looked at immediately.
